After months of making and testing blueberry tarts, pies, muffins, cakes and so many more delicious blueberry recipes for "Death of a Blueberry Tart" I finally had to put the blueberries away for a while before I turned into one.
In hindsight it may have been better for my waistline to stick to the blueberries because I jumped right into my other obsession Pizza and Calzones. I love a good pizza with a spicy sauce, garlicky crispy crust and melted cheeses topped with crispy pepperoni and onions.
On the other hand you won't see me push myself away form the table when there's a delicious baked calzone stuffed with ricotta, melty cheeses, spicy Italian sausage and caramelized onions placed in front of me.
I could eat either one any day of the week and every week so the other day when I was asked which one do I prefer, the amazing pizza that can be topped with just about anything you could ever think of except pineapple (yes I know I will hear about this and no it does not belong on pizza) or the calzone that can be stuffed with just about everything (except pineapple).
My friend who I was talking to on the phone thought I didn't hear her and asked me the question again and for the love of all things good I couldn't answer because I had never been asked to choose. Who asks a question like that? It's like asking which one of your children is your favorite. She kept prodding me and laughing at my inability to answer, but when push came to shove and she posed the inevitable question, "If you are stuck on an island with only one food, what would it be?" My answer is pizza! I have had it almost every way imaginable and still look forward to it every time I eat one and I still want to try and eat many, many more in my future. No offense to the Calzone but I was asked to choose.
So my question to you: What is your favorite? Are you team Calzone or team Pizza?
